Breast reconstruction after breast cancer

Breast reconstruction after breast cancer
Breast is the most important femininity organ. The fact that the incidence of breast cancer is around 12-13% (one out of every 8 women) today reveals the importance of the psychosocial dimension of the work together with the organ loss that occurs after breast cancer.

It is possible to reconstruct the breast simultaneously in patients whose breasts have been partially or completely removed due to breast cancer. In some special cases, after the operation, after the periodic placement of an inflatable balloon (expander), the breast can be reconstructed when the patient and tissue are ready.

In these surgeries, it is possible to make breasts with basically 2 options. The first is by using the patient's own tissues (from the abdomen, back or hip area) or using an implant (silicone prosthesis). Both surgeries have their own advantages and disadvantages, and the important thing is to treat the patient with the most appropriate option as soon as possible (preferably during breast removal surgery) by replacing the organ loss.

Breast reconstruction is a multidisciplinary (including more than one branch) process. Removal of part or all of the breast due to breast cancer (mastectomy) is performed by general surgeons, while the reconstruction (reconstruction) part of the work should be done by Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic surgeons, as in many parts of the body.

Although the surgical processes can be a bit difficult, the results are quite satisfactory surgeries.
