Nose Aesthetics (Rhinoplasty)

My father, who is a very good ENT Specialist and nose surgeon, is the biggest discussion topic between us and who should do the nose surgery. The point I have reached today is that the surgeon, who respects the nose both functionally and aesthetically, does this job properly. The nose basically has two importance. The first of these is the breathing function. A nose that provides adequate air intake to both nasal cavities, humidifies and warms the air it takes in at a suitable rate is a functionally healthy nose. The second importance of the nose is its decisive role in facial appearance, since it is located in the middle of the face. In a successful rhinoplasty, the nose should be considered both functionally and aesthetically.
Rhinoplasty surgery can be performed with the open technique (with a small incision made on the columella) or the closed technique (by making an incision only through the nose). Although the choice of technique is determined according to the needs of the patient, there is no difference between these two techniques for the patient, whether in terms of recovery time or edema. As in every plastic surgery operation, the most suitable technique for the patient and the most comfortable technique for the surgeon is the appropriate technique. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 2-2.5 hours. At the end of the surgery, a small splint is placed on the outside of the nose, but no tampon or splint is placed in the nose unless necessary. In the postoperative period, patients are kept in the hospital for one evening for pain control (Rhinoplasty is an operation that causes very little pain in general) and regular cold application (to keep edema and bruises minimal). The patients are discharged on the morning after the surgery with a simple medical treatment and nasal cleaning.
The first control after the operation is made 1 week later, the nose plaster is removed and the nose is taped. In this control, massages are recommended to the patient, which should be applied especially in the period up to the first month of the operation, which allow the edema in the nose to disappear more quickly. In the vast majority of patients, the bruise is only seen as a thin line under detention and disappears within 3-4 days.
The appearance of the final result in rhinoplasty takes an average of 6-12 months, although it varies from person to person. In this period, the edema in the nose decreases and the details become more apparent day by day. After the operation, the hardened nasal tissue softens and regains its natural state. Although full recovery may take up to 1 year, in the majority of patients, the nose heals in the 1st week after the operation without causing any problems in the social life of the person, and a very high rate of recovery is completed in the 1st month.
