Eyelid Aesthetics (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelids are one of the most complex structures in the human body. On the one hand, it prevents dryness of the eye by performing the function of washing the eye with tears with the opening and closing movement, on the other hand, it has a serious importance in terms of facial appearance. Both the upper and lower eyelids are one of the fastest aging structures on the human face with advancing age. While progressive drooping is usually detected in the upper eyelid due to excess skin tissue, an increasing under-eye depression occurs in the lower lid mostly due to sagging of the mid-face tissues. These two main deformities cause an old and tired appearance. However, the factor that should never be forgotten when planning the intervention to the eyelids is that the upper eyelid should be evaluated together with the eyebrows and forehead, and the lower eyelid should be evaluated together with the mid-face tissues.
The problem of drooping of the upper eyelid is usually seen in the form of progressive age-related bagging (blepharochelasis). However, sometimes there are patients who apply to us with the complaint of droopy eyelids that narrow the visual field at an early age, especially in people with a familial predisposition or due to their anatomical structure. While evaluating the patient, the position of the eyebrows, forehead lines and ptosis causing droopy eyelids and other similar conditions should also be taken into consideration.
Upper eyelid aesthetics is usually performed under local anesthesia. Essentially, necessary interventions are made on the excess skin and, if necessary, the muscle and fat packs under the skin. Although the duration of the operation varies from patient to patient, it is approximately 1 hour. After the surgery, patients can go home after 2-4 hours. First check 3-6. It is done between days and the stitches on the eyelid are removed. Patients can easily return to their work life about one week after the operation. Although it varies from person to person, it takes 1-3 months for the swelling to go down completely after the surgery.
The main reason for the problem in the lower eyelid is that the fat pad in the middle face falls down over time, creating a half-moon-shaped hollow under the eye (tear-trough deformity) and a depression in the area called the nasolabial region on the lip. Since the procedure to be performed on each patient is different, the operation to be performed is decided upon with a detailed examination.
Eyelid problems are very common in our society and cause a tired and old appearance on the face of the person. After a detailed examination and interview, you and your plastic surgeon can decide on the most accurate method and get satisfactory results.
